The Day I Accidentally Became a Restaurant Critic.
It all started because I was hungry.
Not normal hungry.
I’m talking “I would eat the menu if it was fried” hungry.
So I walked into a fancy restaurant.
The kind where the lights are dim, the chairs are too soft, and the menu has words you can’t pronounce.
A waiter came over.
“Welcome, sir. Have you dined with us before?”
I said, confidently:
“No… but I’ve eaten food before.”
He nodded like that made sense.
Then he handed me the menu.
I opened it… and immediately regretted my life choices.
There was no “burger.”
No “fries.”
Not even “chicken.”
Instead, I saw things like:
“Deconstructed seasonal essence with a hint of emotional damage.”
What does that even mean??
Trying to act smart, I pointed at something random.
“I’ll have this.”
The waiter smiled.
“Excellent choice.”
That scared me.
A few minutes later, my food arrived.
Or… at least I think it did.
Because on the plate, there was:
- One tiny piece of something
- A sauce that looked like it was painted by an artist
- And a leaf… just one leaf
I stared at it.
“Where’s the rest?”
The waiter replied calmly:
“That is the dish.”
At that moment, I had two options:
- Admit I was confused
- Pretend I understood everything
So of course…
I chose option 2.
I took a bite.
Then I nodded slowly.
“Hmm… very… interesting.”
I don’t know what I ate.
But it tasted like… expensive confusion.
Suddenly, the manager came to my table.
“Sir, we noticed your reaction. Are you a food critic?”
I almost choked.
But then I thought…
Free food opportunity.
So I said:
“Yes.”
Big mistake.
Within minutes, they started bringing more dishes.
“Please try this.”
“And this.”
“And this as well.”
I was living my dream.
Until…
They brought the bill.
It was NOT a dream anymore.
The manager smiled.
“We look forward to your review.”
I smiled back… with pain in my soul.
That night, I went home broke.
But I did leave a review.
“Food: 10/10
Confusion: 100/10
Portion size: I’m still hungry.”
And that’s the story of how I accidentally became a food critic…
And immediately retired.
